Volkswagen Use Augmented Reality Campaign To Engage 50,000 Customers












Volkswagen have shown their grasp of online technology again with this magazine advertising campaign that links back to the online world using augmented reality. Magazine readers were able to pull out a steering wheel and head over to a website where over 50,000 people took part in an interactive race using one of Volkswagen’s cars. People were able to race against each other to win prizes but more importantly over 7% of the 50,000 people who tried the game actually signed up for a test drive. The smart brands and advertisers are starting to come up with innovative ways to tie print advertising back in to the online world to get 2 hits for their money and this is a perfect example. Impressively with people coming in for a test drive the creators of the campaign would have been able to measure the success of the activity and directly link it back to sales. Augmented reality has often been seen as a bit of a gimmick but this is a brilliant use of it and once again Volkswagen need to be applauded…
